Our Courses
Bay of Plenty English Language School (BOPELS) is registered and accredited for all its courses with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. You can check us out on www.nzqa.govt.nz, look under “Find Education Organisations” and go into the Bay of Plenty Region.
Our courses start on any Monday and for General English you can study from as little as two weeks or for as long as you like.
You can also study full time or part time.
The IELTS preparation class is 12 weeks and class start dates will be advertised on the web or you may wish to contact us directly.
Full time: 21 hours per week
9.00 to 12.00 midday Monday to Friday
1.00pm to 2.30pm Monday to Thursday
Part time: 15 hours per week
9.00 to 12.00 midday
Morning tea break is from 10.30am to 10.50 am and lunchtime is from 12.00 midday to 1.00pm.
Students are welcome to sit with the staff at morning tea to continue practising their speaking skills in a relaxed environment
The Bay of Plenty English Language School has small intimate classes with a maximum number of 12 students per class. Most often, however, the classes are between 7 and 10
Most of our classes change teachers in the afternoons. This helps to improve your English Language skills, especially in listening and speaking.

- IELTS preparation
- On the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) we are accredited to teach:
- English – oral, visual, written, reading plus Interpersonal Communications (speaking) to Level 2.
- English for Speakers of Other Languages to Level 6

The General English programme is based around selected course books and is supplemented with a wide range of other appropriate material.
During your course you will study language structure in the four skills areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The writing components will cover both fluency and accuracy. Vocabulary extension is also an important part of these courses.
Group Tours – English + activities
For information on these tours please contact the school directly. Tours can be arranged to meet particular needs, but usually consist of English classes in the morning and activities in the afternoon. Check out the photos in the Gallery section.
