To reserve a place on a language course the total fees must be paid, in full, two weeks prior to the commencement of the course.
A student must complete their period of study in the time set out on their enrolment forms and Invoice Statements.
If a student decides to take a holiday during the period that he/she is enrolled at the school then he/she forfeits that period of study and homestay fee unless such holiday is agreed with the school before the course starts.
If a student leaves the school to have a holiday after the completion of their course and then returns to the school for another period of study he/she is to pay a new registration fee.
Any student who takes a holiday at their own expense cannot be guaranteed a place back with their original class.
All students aged under 18 years, while studying at the Bay of Plenty English Language School must live in a homestay approved by the Bay of Plenty English Language School or with a parent/legal guardian. All students aged 10 years or under, must live with a parent/legal guardian.
A student must give one week's notice to the school to change a homestay unless there is a concern for student welfare. If a student chooses to change their homestay, then a homestay placement fee will apply for each change.
A student staying in a Bay of Plenty English Language School homestay must agree to abide by the homestay guidelines. (see attached form)
You must take a test as soon as you arrive at the School in order to place you in your correct course level.
You will take regular progress tests. If you miss a progress test, you must take it as soon as possible.
You must pay all fees before you begin your course. This applies to both group and individual tuition. We cannot reduce or transfer your fees to another student. Fees will be forfeited if you withdraw from the course, are absent or are expelled from the school. Courses and fees may be changed annually. NB: There is provision to forward fees to Universities, High Schools and Polytechnics if a student attains the entry level for the next institution before they have finished their course at Bay of Plenty English Language School.
You should conform to all the School Regulations set out below. If you do not do so, you may be asked to leave the School.
The School does not accept responsibility for the loss of personal property or for loss resulting from theft in the school premises.
The School undertakes tp provide and deliver our English programmes at the highest level.
You should co-operate with your teachers in the principles of our teaching method and participate actively in your lessons. To obtain the maximum benefit from the course students are expected to attend 100% of classes. If a student is sick, the office should be informed and if absent for more than 3 days, a student may be asked for a Doctor’s Certificate. If a student is continually absent he/she may be asked to leave the school. If a student is on a student visa, New Zealand Immigration will be advised and the visa may be revoked.
While on the School premises you should help maintain our academic atmosphere by not disturbing other classes in progress.
The School reserves the right to ask a student to leave the School premises for inappropriate behaviour.
Classrooms and corridors should be kept neat and tidy at all times. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the classrooms.
Smoking and chewing gum are not permitted anywhere on the school premises.
Students who deface or damage School or Homestay property will be charged for any repairs or replacement costs.
Students should observe a proper dress code while in school at all times.
In the case of a course not commencing or having to stop, the student is entitled to a refund of fees that have not already been used. ( See the Refund Policy in the General Information)
No compensation is given for a public holiday when the school is closed. All fees are calculated on complete weeks and study for any portion of a week is counted as a full week.
The student/parents agree that all information in this document and the Enrolment Form are true and correct. If it is discovered that information concerning the applicant’s learning and behavioural details have been withheld from the school, the school has the right to dismiss the student for inappropriate and/or unacceptable behaviour. The Board of Directors would be informed prior to the dismissal.

Bay of Plenty English Language School has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry if Health, and can be viewed on their website at: >www.moh.govt.nz
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand Citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at: >www.acc.co.nz
International students (including group students) must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while in New Zealand.
When a course is booked, it should be paid in full two weeks in advance to secure the booking. The cost of books and tapes are not included in the tuition fee (unless stated otherwise). Books and tape prices are listed on the invoice.
Where a student enrolled at a PTE on a course of study or training, that is less than three months’ duration, withdraws from such a course, the following minimum refund entitlement will apply:
In these circumstances the school will retain amounts to cover the costs already incurred. The balance of tuition and homestay (if applicable) fees will be refunded.
The registration fee is non-refundable.
If the student has studied at this school to prepare for further education in New Zealand and has achieved the required entry level for the next institution before anticipated, the school is able to forward any prepaid fees that are not used to the next institute of learning. Administration costs would be deducted.
If the Bay of Plenty English Language School is unable to provide a course which has already been booked, or to proceed with a course which has already begun, then full fees will be refunded for the course not provided. Help will be given, if required, to find another course or school, which could provide a suitable course.
All monies received by the school for student fees and homestay accommodation are held in the students’ trust account with the Public Trust of New Zealand.
