Homestay

Living in an English home is one of the best ways to practise speaking English outside school and to experience the New Zealand way of life.

All our host families are personally visited and police vetted.

All our students:

Have their own bedroom
Have three meals a day, seven days a week
Are part of both the homestay family and the ‘BOPELS’ family
Will not have another student of the same nationality in the same homestay
Are invited to take part in family activities if they wish
Are close to bus stops to take a short bus ride to school.
In the enrolment pack which you will find in the APPLY section you will fill out a form to tell us what kind of homestay family you would like to live with.

Other accommodation – You must be over 18 years of age to be able to live in other accommodation!

Often students who have been here meet other students and decide to rent a house or an apartment together. This is called ‘flatting’.

The Bay of Plenty English Language School is a signatory to the New Zealand Government’s Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.

Transport

Buses leave the city centre every 30 minutes and cover all the suburbs in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui.

“BOPELS’ is a 4 minute walk from the central city bus station.

If you have a student ID card which the school will issue (for free) on being given a passport photo and you purchase a smart card your fare becomes less than half the regular fare.

Cars

If you are over the age of 18 and hold a valid licence from either your own country or an International licence and intend being in New Zealand for a few months you may wish to purchase a car. Second hand, reliable vehicles can be purchased for between NZ$1,500.00 and NZ$2,500.00 plus insurance, plus registration. We can advise you how to do this.

Walking

For even greater convenience the school is situated within very easy walking distance from the central city area.

Airport transfers

BOPELS can arrange a door to door shuttle service from Auckland Airport to your accommodation here in Tauranga.
